A plan emerges. Johnny secures a rope near the top of the cliff overlooking the northeast lookout tower. Connor casts Sleep on the two guards stationed atop the tower and they both collapse. Johnny then quickly climbs down the rope, cuts the last six feet off with a dagger, climbs up the tower and binds both sleeping guards. He then gags them just before they begin to come round. He gestures for the next phase of the plan to begin.

Connor, Besheeba and Oskar climb down the rope, leaving Nicolai guarding the top. Besheeba and Oskar climb up the tower where Johnny quickly fills them in. He then descends and teams up with Connor.

Connor and Johnny sneak down the incline into the camp proper. They follow the cliff face around to the south, acting like two drunk soldiers. As they round the corner near the large tent, the guard stationed outside immediately spots them. They keep moving to the east and are challenged and told to turn around. Behind the guard, Johnny makes out the form of a reptilian doglike creature. The pair apologise loudly and cheekily, turning around. They are watched but not followed.

The pair then meander through the eastern part of the camp, avoiding the populated areas and maintaining their drunken guise. About halfway between the north and south cliffs, they see a humanoid figure bound to an 'X' structure made of sizeable wooden beams. The figure faces roughly north, towards the large tent some 75 feet away. Their head hangs low.

Johnny and Connor quickly and quietly change plans. They head drunkenly towards a small copse of trees to the right of a cluster of tents and disappear within.

Group Stealth checks from two stealthy characters tend to work very well!

They then head south to the cliff and follow it to the east, circling behind the tents. To the right, they now see the back of the 'X' structure. They sneak closer.

Thirty feet behind the whipping posts, they stop and crouch down. Connor creates an illusory whisper near the figure's ear asking for him to nod if he hears. There is no response. The pair circle around to the right, trying to get a better look at the figure's face. The profile and form is masculine, perhaps human. His limbs are shackled in iron, chained to each fork of the timber structure. His head remains resolutely low.

There is a growl from the large tent to the north and the reptilian lizard emerges, heading towards the pair. The guard nearby takes note and peers into the dark that suddenly seems not dark enough. He grabs the beast's leash. "Hey!" he yells. "What are you about?" He marches south, nearly dragged by the lizard.

"I am very drunk," Johnny whispers, doubling up. "And you are trying to keep me from throwing up!" Johnny's portrayal of a reveller suffering from alcohol poisoning is far from convincing, but Connor more than makes up for it. The guard is put at ease. "Be off with you!" he yells, dragging the lizard back to the tent. Connor makes like he is dragging Johnny to his feet and the pair effect a stumbling retreat to the south.

"Blimey, that was close!" Johnny mouths.

"Not helped by you!" Connor says. "What was that supposed to be - retching? I thought you were trying to blow bubbles! You owe me one."

"I know I know, not my best work. Did you see the guy any clearer? Is it our long lost monk?"

"I dunno."

"I know what I did see," Johnny says. "Bloody big locked manacles. Four of 'em. That's not gonna be easy to get around."

"Can you do it?"

"Well, yeah, I can do it," Johnny says. "But it's gonna take time. A minute or two, with those buggers and that damn dog thing lookin' right at me." He sighs. "That's twice we've pushed our luck," Johnny whispers. "I don't fancy our chances a third time. I reckon that guy's f^$(3d."

"Let's see what else we can see then," Connor says.

The pair backtrack to the north. Connor spots a group of bandits sitting around a campfire near the lookout tower. "Let's go talk to them!" Connor suggests.
