The party make it to the keep's tunnel entrance. Johnny hangs back to be sure they were not seen, then joins the others inside. They escort the children to the infirmary where they are taken care of.

Everyone turns in - Johnny, Besheeba and Nicolai in their previously allocated rooms, Connor and Oskar in Connor's room.

Hmmm… Why did Oskar decide to shack up with Connor?

An hour into their sleep, a guard wakes Connor and Oskar saying there is a commotion at the keep gate. They gather their gear and look for the others but cannot find them. The pair head to the battlements.

Below is a group of kobolds holding torches led by a blue-skinned, reptilian humanoid at least seven feet tall in armour and bearing a greatsword. He holds three captives: a woman and her two children. The warrior yells up to the keep's defenders that he is in a sporting mood from the night's frivolities, and issues a challenge: provide a champion to fight him in single combat, or the hostages die. The woman's brother, a militiaman, immediately volunteers. Governor Nighthill urges Connor and Oskar to consider taking his place, being better than that or any other militiaman under his command. The pair consider the plea and reject it: Connor is not that sort of a guy, and it is not in keeping with the code of Oskar's order to mediate others' disputes with violence.

The militiaman leaves the keep, his shortsword pitifully small versus the scaly monster's huge weapon. The reptile expresses his disappointment at the man before him - Greenest's best. The duel is over almost before it starts; the man is cut down in the first exchange. The raiders shove the hostages to the ground and disperse. Militiamen lead them inside and retrieve their fallen comrade - another casualty of this horrible night. Watchers see the remainder of the raiders leave towards the southeast.

Everyone gets back to bed. The night passes and the sun rises on a very different Greenest.

In the morning, Governor Nighthill approaches the party with another request: follow the raiders and gather information - the location of their camp, their numbers, who their leader is. Nessim, a monk from Burdusk with a severe limp, has further information. Their order's leader, Jonathan, has sent him because one of their order, Leosine Urlether, is missing. Leosine's staff was found broken and his choker, a braided leather band with a leather disc embossed with the image of a silver dragon, was found with its cord in tatters as if it was torn off. Leosine may have been taken prisoner, or may have tried to infiltrate the raiders. He knows a lot about this enemy as he has been studying them for some time - he may have useful intelligence if he could be found. He is a man with dark hair and a beard.

The party decide to take on this new mission. They avail themselves of Greenest for supplies - arrows and trail rations.
