Violet casts Wall of Thorns, engulfing the bat in 12,000 square feet of vicious brambles. The shortest path out is towards the cliff edge, through five feet of thorns. The bat is caught! Violet-bear then moves to the side of the mass of thorns and stands guard. Rowaine/Harley/Lionel launch into the air and fly in front of the wall, Rowaine's falchion raised in case anything emerges. Lionel does the same.
Arrian casts Magic Circle against Evil, centred on himself, and moves opposite Violet. The bat changes back into a nightwing. Troll and Calico use the Spellcraft skill to deduce that the creature cast Greater Dispel Magic - without any spell components. It is still stuck within the thorns. Troll casts Acid Fog all through the Wall of Thorns and a little beyond; the nightwing disappears from sight. The nightwing takes 2d6=11 damage. Troll then goes to the edge. Calico moves and readies an action to attack anything emerging from the acid fog. Ariel casts Protection from Evil on Troll.

Violet Calls Lightning into the acid fog. CL check of 32 breaks through the nightwing's spell resistance. Save DC18. Cannot see its effect. Rowaine circles to the same place and readies an action to smite the nightwing's arse or whatever part of it that comes out. Arrian moves over to Troll and casts Spell Resistance on him. The nightwing tries to move and emerges from the Wall of Thorns, triggering Lionel's, Calico's and Rowaine's readied actions. Lionel attacks, ac34 hits for 8 dmg. Calico casts Baleful Polymorph on the nightwing but does not penetrate its spell resistance. Rowaine misses a divine might powered smite with a natural 1. The nightwing starts emerging! Troll Fireballs it, gets through its spell resistance and does 27 damage (DM rules no saving throw because of its impaired movement).
Ariel casts Disintegrate again, and it again fails. She stays where she is, looking disappointed.

Violet casts Baleful Polymorph, trying to turn it into an undead fish. The spell fails (caster level check 13, nat1). Call Lightning 3d6=16 dmg.
NB: Violet shouldn't have been able to do the Call Lightning - it requires a standard action that she already used for her Baleful Polymorph.
The orcs at the gate are somewhat distracted by the battle above. Arrian casts Searing Light - nothing happens. Lionel fullattacks: ac27 misses, aclow misses. Calico Wild Shapes into a bird as a swift action, circles around and casts Blinding Spittle. CL check 22 fails. Rowaine fullattacks with divine might, first is a smite. ac31 hits for 2d4+25=30, ac33 hits for 18 dmg. The nightwing looks at Rowaine, Harley and Lionel and a blast of cold comes towards them. The Cone of Cold is good for 15d6=57 dmg (half if save). rfl saves: Rowaine's 21 succeeds. Lionel's natural 1 automatically fails. Lionel loses all hit points! Fortitude save of 24 vs dc20 is successful, so he is disabled and just barely conscious, and manages to hold on.
Harley's rfl save of 16 fails and she takes the full 57 points of cold damage. The nightwing moves out of the thorns and flies down the canyon 60'. Troll Fireballs but fails the CL check. Ariel casts Lightning Bolt but it too fails.
