The party choose to stay in the upper cavern, guarding the top of the hole. Krag, Vor-Wrek and Silque gather around the hole while Enok and Rowaine camp nearby at the beginning of the exit tunnel.

Vor-Wrek hears a noise down the hole… quiet footsteps accompanied by sobbing, a short pause, then a trickling sound. The sobbing and footsteps begin again and fade away. This is repeated a number of times over the next few hours.

Vor-Wrek goes back down the hole, remaining inside its lower end. He can hear more muffled crying but does not risk being seen and returns to the others.

At about three hours after midday, Krag senses something ominous, something approaching, from down the hole. Moments later Vor-Wrek hears something too.

A large snake head bursts out of the hole! Alarmed but prepared, the three party members clustered around the hole attack and all score substantial hits. The creature retreats back down the hole, taking another blow in its desperation to escape.

Enok and Rowaine move up in support and see the creature retreat. The others pile down the hole. Enok lights a torch and he and Rowaine follow.

The party enter the lower cavern and look right. The two creatures are back in their original positions. The larger of the two points at the party and the cavern blinks out of view, even to those with darkvision!

Combat ensues in the dark. Vor-Wrek and Krag move and encounter something large. Krag's torso explodes in pain as something acidic writhes past. Silque edges around the left wall. Enok travels straight across the cavern, touches the far wall and heads right. Rowaine enters the cavern, hears the sound of combat to her right and ends up supporting Vor-Wrek and Krag.

Vor-Wrek pops out of the darkness at the far end of the cavern, right in front of the petrified goblin youngsters. He guesses where his previous opponent is but misses.

Enok emerges from the darkness and spots Vor-Wrek just as a snake creature steps out between them. Another larger creature steps behind Vor-Wrek, flanking him!

Vor-Wrek scores the killing blow on the smaller creature. The larger one turns and awkwardly flees back into the darkness. Vor-Wrek follows it, judging correctly that it is heading for the tunnel. He acts as a blind "spotter" for Enok's arrows. Krag follows after Vor-wrek. Once the party determine that the creature is making for the hole, all join in the pursuit.

The huge snake traverses the hole and emerges into the upper cavern. Vor-Wrek follows close behind and moves out of the darkness effect. the snake turns and casts a spell, roots erupting around Vor-Wrek. He is slowed but not stopped. He struggles out of the hole and lands the killing blow before the huge creature can escape.

The party go back down where Silque is keeping a careful watch on the goblins - and a large chest. Inside is a small fortune of goodies.

Enok retrieves the unconscious female goblin and awakens her. She is the mother of one of the young and acts protectively over all of them.

All head back safely to the monastery, taking the loot, Sarthen's body and the heads of the other creatures. The reptilian remains are identified as the mysterious Yuan-Ti.

Sir Veketh, true to his calling, offers all of the dispossessed goblins refuge at the monastery. The goblin female vehemently rejects the offer, wanting to leave with her brood. However, one of the young goblins accepts the offer. The headmaster graciously accepts these decisions, organising to have the leaving goblins safely escorted from the monastery. The party tithe 591.9gp worth of treasure between the monastery and the folk of Trennim, and a 500gp yellow topaz to Yore.

Here endeth the adventure!
