Chapter 04: Hallo Hallowdale

The party stay in Hallowdale for 10 days doing various tasks of their own. Nuff kindly pays for the party to stay in a rather nice little lodge and tavern called the White Hart.

Baelor goes to the temple and delivers his message… then goes back to the White Hart and eats and drinks til he is merry!

Sack pays a visit to the local thieves guild and decides to "pay" them so he can see what the locals have in their pockets… when he isn't doing that, he is back at the White Hart, eating and drinking til he is merry!

Sigil replenishes his arrows and accompanies Nuff to a rather clever leather worker who designs and fabricates a waterproof pouch to hold a spellbook. He also recharges both his and Sack's Armour spells and discovers that Parsons' "Ring of Water Breathing" has 4 charges per day. Otherwise, he is with the others - eating and drinking til he is merry!!

Catria finds a bath house… sigh!!! She also auditions for a singing position at the White Hart. The manager Berkin (the merkin) tells her she sings rather well, asking whether she would be available at short notice should the previously retained singer become unavailable. Two nights later, she is approached by Berkin who asks her to sing each night, also giving her a wee note to take to a local dress maker!!! Oh yes please!! When she isn't singing or wandering the markets, Catria is with the others having Baelor teach her how to drink & eat until she is merry!!

After Nuff's "family visit" is complete, the party recovers enough and before they get too used to the comforts of their lodgings… they decide that it is time to leave and head back to the caverns. They make the trip uneventfully and re-enter the tunnel at the base of the waterfall. No new barricades appear to have been made in their absence so the party continues onward. Each in turn uses the magical ring to make their way through the water-filled side passage beyond the crystal cavern. Once "safely" on the other side, they head right to investigate the stairway that leads up in an anticlockwise direction.

The party follows the winding stairway up four flights, turning a full circle. Just before the fifth flight of stairs is a 5'-wide passageway 25' long that ends in a curved wall. Daylight spears through a small vertical slit in the far wall. The party looks through the slit and sees a view of the chasm, from roughly half way up its depth. The waterfall can clearly be seen 45° to the right, with the entrance to the goblin cavern system at its base.

The strange side passage and slit window to the outside world is repeated twice more, each after a further four flights of stairs and appearing to stack more or less directly above each other.

After the third side passage the corridor turns left and left again, stopping abruptly at a deep hole about 35' in diameter. A vile smell emanates from the hole - it smells like something died down there. Baelor lights a torch and peers down. He sees that the hole looms down far beyond the illumination of the torch, and that the walls of the hole are rough and irregular. Water can be heard dripping somewhere below. Baelor drops the lit torch down the hole. It rebounds a couple of times off wet walls, finally disappearing far below with a splash and a hiss. This hole appears to be at least as deep as the chute - probably deeper.

The group discuss the pros and cons of bashing through one of the slitted rock walls. On the positive, it would provide an alternative means of escape to the outside world. On the negative, it would be rather noisy…

(Game on hold due to Craigo selfishly and thoughtlessly getting hit by a bus)

TO CRAIG: To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world!! True friends are hard to come by, so hang on to them for as long as you can… we're hangin on Craig… so hang in there buddy, you'll be right in no time!! I mean - if ya didn't want to DM anymore, you could have just told us… I mean, I am getting that Dungeon Masters for Dummies book remember, haha!

Game on at Craig's place then??
